Auction Guidelines
These are general rules and guidelines that seem to be standard throughout the auction community. Terminology is also included down below. Of course, make sure to check with your auctioneer for the rules of their auction.
- All bids are in 1,000 gold increments and must be in Say text chat.
If someone bids 42, that is 42,000 gold and not 42 gold. - If you add to a bid, please put how much you’re adding on to the bid, the person’s name, and the total bid amount.
(For example: 100 on HighElf420 for a total of 200) - If someone is selling more than 5 items, trade the full amount of the winning bid on the first trade. The rest of the lot you had won will be traded to you in subsequent trades.
- Never talk prices. What something is worth to you have different value to others.
50/50 Guidelines
As all 50/50’s tend to be different based on what the guild has available to them, make sure to check with the auctioneer and their 50/50 person for the rules.
- Tickets are a set price each, usually 1,000 gold each.
- Open trade with the 50/50 person.
- Enter how much gold you wish to enter. If you enter 50,000 gold, at 1,000 gold per ticket, you will get 50 numbers. Do not accept trade until the 50/50 person accepts first. This gives them a chance to get your name down.
- Once they accept the trade, you can now accept trade.
- If you wish to get your numbers, you may whisper the 50/50 person and ask politely for the numbers. Give them a few minutes, as they may be dealing with many people at the same time.
- Drawing is usually towards the end, if not at the end of the auction. You don’t need to be around as most will mail you your winnings or contact you about your prizes.
How Do I List?
Listing is different for most auctions but this tends to be the normal around the auction community.
- First and foremost, whisper the auctioneer that you would like a lot to sell. Make sure to let them know early because it is first come-first serve and many only have a limited number of slots available. Once it is your turn, the auctioneer will let you know.
- Once your turn, list your items for sale in Say Chat Only! We suggest keeping it to 50 items or less. Check with the auctioneer if there is a limit.
- After you have listed you can either set a reserve, a minimum amount you’re willing to accept for payment of your lot or list it as Open.
So, if you wish to set a reserve of 100,000 gold, after listing your lot, you will type in Say Chat “Res 100K”.
If you wish it to be Open, you’d say “Open” after listing and the highest bid wins.
WARNING: That means your lot could sell for as little as 1,000 gold. Be warned. - Sometimes, friendly people will want to send your lot to friends in their mail “1b1”. That means they want you to send your lot to their friend 1 piece at a time. Can be burdensome but people tend to pay more for the pleasure. If you wish to not do that, when announcing the reserve or that the bidding is open, make sure to type “no 1b1”. This may hurt the value of your lot though.
